A couple of BOTT XR1 “Made in the USA”

Today we show you two BOTT XR1s that are being built in the US.
Bob is building one in Colorado, and John another one in Virginia. In both cases the bikes have several changes compared with the original version.

There are customers who want to build their bikes very fast in order to enjoy riding their bike as soon as possible.
But in other cases, like the ones we show you today, a good part of the enjoyment comes from the bike building process. This includes making modifications to the original concept, trying new ideas.
It is clear that Bob and John really like mechanics and for them the building becomes a project, that can be quite long, but which is very enjoyable.

This is the XR1 that Bob is building.

From what I know his XR1 is the only one that has been built using a short swingarm, because the XR1 kit has been designed to be used with a long swingarm (which is used in the Buell XB12SS, Buell Ulysses and Buell XB12TT). I recommend those customers who have a short swingarm Buell as a donor bike, to change the swingarm for a long one. But Bob wanted to use the short one, and because of this he had to make several modifications to the kit.

In addition, instead of using the injection body from the donor XB, he used the injection body from a Buell X1, which was designed to work horizontally and which fits perfectly into the XB engine. Great work!

And this is the XR1 that John is building in Virginia.

The donor bike is a Buell Ulysses. Taking advantage that it is not necessary to buy the complete kit (it is possible to buy any assembly separately) John also used a Buell X1 injection body. Moreover, John didn’t want to use the secondary fueltanks of the kit (which we use to mount the original Buell fuelpump), and he is adapting an external fuelpump, which you can see beside the rear shock, in the rear view of the bike.

John also changed all the oil lines of the bike. The ones going to the oil radiator and those ones that arrive to the swingarm. For the final drive, he also plans to use a chain instead of the original belt. He also will change the triple clamps, etc, etc.
As you can see, this project is also really interesting!

I just want to thank both Bob and John for choosing our kit and for their good ideas and feedback, that helped us to improve our XR1 kit. It is a pleasure to follow their projects and see how the move forward.

In following posts we will show you more XR1s that our customers are building in different countries.

  1. I’m courious if John from Virginia used standard ammo from uly because it seem pretty high compared with your xr1

  2. Hi Enrico,

You are right, right now the bike is higher (this effect is also visually increased because at the moment the bike doesn’t have the under-engine silencer). I think that John is using a XB12R shock (which is longer than a XB12SS one). But he still wants to change a lot of things on the bike, so we still must wait for some time to see the final result.
